polar bears

Hunting and Eating.

Polar bears mainly eat ringed seal. They will also eat bearded seal, harp, and scavage the remains of beluga whales, walruses, and bowhead whales.
Polar bears will eat litterallly anything if these foods arnt aviable. They may even go into vegatation.

polar bears need an average of 4.4lb per day. there stomaches can hold from 20 to 30 percent of there body weight. when a polar bear hibornates it does not eat.

The most common way of hunting is still hunting. This is when the polar bear stands next to a breathing hole without moving and waits for a seal to surface. Then the bear grabs the seal by the head, neck, or body and flips the seal completly out of the water. This ussually takes an hour but the bear will wait much longer.

some other ways  polar bears hunt are:

    Aquatic stalk.
this methode is mainly used in the summer time when the seals haul out on sea ice. the polar bear will go to the edge of the ice where the hauled out seal is and will quickly grad the seal with its claws or teeth.

    Stalking birth lairs:
This is when the polar bear stalks and kills the seals at birth. This happens in the spring time when the seals are giving birth.
