People used to hunt the polar bears for warmth and food when they needed it. In Russia the people used to hunt them for food. Now people believe they are doing it for money. Polar bears skins sell for about 1000$ to 3000$.
People are starting to think that polar bears are being killed for jewlery,clothes,boots, and money.

The natives only hunt about 50 bears a year. The natives are the only people in the US that are aloud to hunt the polar bears. the US doesnt allow others to because they kill about 160-190 bears a year. US biologists are scared that because of hunting the bears are going to go extinct.

In the 1950's Russia did bann polar bear hunting but after the soviet union fell its especially hard to enforce this law. Now people are saying that the rate of death has gone up so high that in less than 20 years half the population will be gone. So if global warming doesn't kill them then i guess the people will.
